About the Opportunity

An opportunity has become available for an Initial Placement Practitioner to join our supportive team in Wodonga, Victoria.

Reporting to the Carer Management Team Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for the central intake, assessment and short-term case management of all referrals into the Foster Care Program to ensure the provision of a safe, stable and nurturing environment to children in out-of-home care.

Key Responsibility Areas of this role will include (but are not limited to):

  • Effectively undertaking the delivery of a high-quality Intake Service (in collaboration with the Team Leader), including gathering information to inform decision-making and promoting a positive working relationship with relevant stakeholders
  • Undertaking a rigorous assessment of referrals to determine appropriate placement matching, ensuring Best Interest Case Practice principles are met, and to initiate family contact and/or assessment to assist in building positive partnerships
  • Providing short-term case management, including initial placement establishment and maintenance of placements
  • Working closely with the Carer Management Team to ensure quality induction of Carers into the Foster Care program; and
  • Working in a strength-based framework, delivering high-quality, legally compliant, efficient and effective foster care services

About You

To be eligible to apply for this position, you'll require a qualification in Social Sciences or equivalent, as well as an understanding of and demonstrated experience in case management (including work placement experience). We're seeking a candidate with a knowledge of trauma and its impact on children and the ability to apply that knowledge. 

Experienced candidates, and graduates, are both welcome to apply.

All candidates will need to possess or be able to obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Check - Victoria and NSW
  • Satisfactory National Police Check
  • Current driver's licence (you will be Wodonga-based however, the role will see you travelling throughout the region from time to time

Importantly, you will be a team player with strong communication skills, highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, and good levels of resilience. This role requires you to manage competing priorities and interact with people with a range of abilities and needs.
